Judy is the mother of premature twins and was the daughter of a terminally ill father. Her twins were born at 26 weeks in April of 2000 and her father was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s and later Lung Cancer in early 2000. Her journey through the NICU introduced her to Patient Centered Care, helping prepare for her father’s later needs. Judy helped launch and co-chair the Family Advisory Board for the UNC Critical Care Unit, participated in Institute for Patient-and Family- Centered Care conferences and represent patients on the NC Quality Center Board. She continues to peruse highlighting the essential need of collaborations between healthcare providers with patients and families. Her general discussion surrounds her daughters’ story the day to day and long term effects of the NICU and the intense impact it had in her life then and now. The presentation may vary from an open panel forum to a formal speech.
